Roy Halladay IPO released

alg_halladay

Roy Halladay was released into the OneSeason world yesterday.  Go request a few shares today if you haven’t already.  He’ll be available to trade later this afternoon.

ALOV Will be the next SOI to reverse split

Alexander Ovechkin will be and should be the next OneSeason SOI to reverse split.  The hockey superstar has over 8000 shares outstanding and his value is still a bit high.  With hockey coming to an end, it’s his turn.  We at OS Trader truly feel he will be the next up in the reverse split chain.  Yao Ming, Oden, Nash, Yao Ming again, Garnett and now ALOV!

But with OneSeason, you never know!  Stay tuned!

What’s in your Sportfolio? Monopoly versus Diversity

monopoly-manOne common dilemma that I’ve noticed on OneSeason is whether it’s smart to use your money to acquire large holdings of just a few players… or is it better to have small stakes in many different SOIs? With the recent introduction of Fan Moguls features, the OneSeason team provided even more incentive to become one of the “big dog” owners of an individual SOI and show off your bankroll. Still, when you browse user profiles, it’s clear that different users take different strategies – with many owners finding a middle ground. Below are the basic pros and cons I see to each of the two camps:

Few players, many shares of each
Pros:
-Potential for large gains if you picked the right player who realizes big price spikes… or a split
-Significant owner influence on SOI price since you control a large % of supply
-Fan Mogul status and bragging rights

Cons:
-High risk of lost value if your player stock slumps (injury, traded, poor performance, market, etc)
-Less flexibility to quickly shift out of your SOIs and into other SOIs
-Tough to cash out unless you are willing to sell off holdings slowly (or immediately at a possible loss)

Many players, few shares of each
Pros:
-Potential for stable, dependable growth as OneSeason market cap increases
-Minimal loss potential if a SOI you hold rapidly drops in price (injury, poor performance, etc)
-More flexibility to quickly flip your money to cash or other SOIs (just sell whichever SOIs are up)

Cons:
-Less influence on market price of each SOI and low profit potential if one SOI price increases rapidly
-Your many SOIs may tend to “cancel out” with some gaining and others losing value
-Less visibility on Fan Mogul

…I think there are definitely valid reasons for taking either buying approach, and I think you will continue to see the entire spectrum of OneSeason user strategies applied to this developing market. For the most part, my personal strategy has been to diversify among numerous low risk (yet lower upside) veteran and HOF players while trying to day trade with the younger star players who draw more interest, experience greater swings in price, and typically trade at higher daily volume. Early on, I tried being a major holder of various SOIs, and I experienced pretty mixed results.

Whatever your strategy, it’s a constant learning experience here on OneSeason. Although the market has become increasingly stable since the launch, there are constant curveballs that arrive to show us how much we can still learn… so have fun and trade on!

OneSeason is lacking MLB Baseball SOI’s

baseballThe fresh scent of freshly cut grass, beer and hot dogs, peanuts and cracker jacks have many of us itching for baseball. Gentlemen and some of you ladies; you know who you are… start your engines…okay maybe not your engines, but get your vocals ready. We’ll all be singing take me out to the ball game before Knup finishes his first diet coke. Some of you in Florida and Arizona have already had the opportunity to relieve that itch with spring training underway for the last few weeks.

Others, in Canada have had the pleasure to enjoy international baseball. With the likes of team USA beating down, arch rival and friendly neighbor, Canada. Some of us were lucky enough to see the Netherlands knock off powerhouse Dominican. Who knew there was anything other than the red light district and plenty of legal drugs in the Netherlands? The score tied, goose eggs, in the all important runs column. Until the top of 11 when Toronto’s Jose Bautista hit a liner that was misplayed by the Netherlands right fielder, Van Klooster. The error allowed the other, “JOSE JOSE JOSE JOSEEEEEE JOSSEEEE” Reyes to score from first.

In the bottom of the 11th Sidney De Jong ripping the Bong, naturally, tied the game up and the rest was history when Willy, “might as well call me Bill Buckner,” Abyer couldn’t field a routine grounder to first. I certainly didn’t realize the Netherlands had played sports other than that intense game of curling or as some of us, including myself, know it as ice mopping. We should all to tip our caps to the guys on that team who played,  with a lot of heart, in a true 21st century pitchers dual and out of respect pack up the bowl and take a rip for team Netherland.

t1_hanley_icon1Back to the real issue at hand, . The time is near and we all need to help the cause, at least from the OS perspective. As members and active users of the site we all need to work together to ensure OS thrives. In doing so, I think it’s important to make sure that we remove the football players and mid level basketball players from our request list and request all baseball players. 8 of the top 16 players on the request list are football players, 6 of 16 basketball, and one hockey player. Only one baseball player and he’s next, the little guy Mark Lemke, I mean Dustin Pedroia is top 10. New user volume is not growing quick enough to afford 14 out of 16 non baseball players to throw into an already struggling market. Take an average MV for a mid level football player, for arguments sake, let’s say $10K per player with 8 total IPO’s and $80,000 on the verge of hitting the market. Add 6 more basketball players, again for arguments sake $10K per player, another $60K on another slew of mid level guys that are lurking in the top 15. Now we are looking at $140,000 or approximately 14% of the TMV (Total Market Value) into an already struggling market. There are only 11 baseball players with Utley and Pedroia on the site that will make 13. I understand the reason, since the inception of OS baseball was out of season. We would be looking at 29 basketball, 28 football, and 4 hockey, with baseball suffering badly. The point is that OS will survive with users wanting to add more money into their account, own more shares of players they can watch on a nightly basis. We need IPO’s for sports in season. Of course it’d be nice to own some shares of the NFL’s offensive Rookie of the Year Matt Ryan or HOF Joseph Clifford Montana Jr. But can’t those guys wait?! Wouldn’t you rather own #7, “The Mick” first or the young flame thrower Tim Lincecum. The kid won the Cy Young on a bad baseball team, very bad. Hanley is 42 on the list, the guy may steal 50 bases and hit 30 homers for you, and he’s 42?! Out of the top 50 guys 9 of them are baseball players. Let’s say, 50 players dropping 2 per week is roughly 6 months from now. That will put us near the end of the baseball season, potentially right around playoff time. That is bad news. We need the stars of the baseball world to drop now! The survival of OS cannot be saved by Mr. Mike Sroka, but the members who continue to help make it grow can save OS. Be smart with your decisions. As my father often said, “You can do anything you want to do, if you want to do it.” So do what needs to be done and make this happen. If you know people on the site tell them, hopefully they will tell others and before we all know it only baseball players will consume the top 25.

The down time in our day is filled with making fun of Eric. Wishing Knup would sell some Pujols share to all of us for pennies on the dollar. We spend much of our day joking with one another, talking fantasy sports (some more than others, come on sign up for the damn fantasy baseball league!!!!), talking about pros and cons of OneSeason. Do your part gentleman, help make OneSeason flourish, and stand by JC for his quest at a lifetime of virginity. We all know the high rewards $$$$$ at stake for many. As well as the entertainment value that I know many of you don’t want to lose, at least not any time soon.

Chase Utley time!

p1_chase_utley

The Chase Utley IPO was released today!  First time in a long time we have seen an IPO hit the day after one was released for trading.  A little unexpected but the market definitely triggered UTLY during the big spike the other day.  So now the ever common question, where does he fit into the market?  I’m going to say he fits ahead of David Ortiz, but not by much.  8-9K by the end of day 1 is my guess.  Thoughts?

Magic drops on Monday

Magic Johnson hit the OneSeason IPO pipeline on Monday! It will be interesting to see where Magic’s Market Value falls tonight as there is a huge Buzz surging throughout OS today.  We anticipate his market value falling in around 13-15K.  But who really knows.  Are you going to be buying, selling or holding MAGC?

magic-johnson-picture2

OneSeasonText.com was once again VERY fast.  This was OSText first notification that was completely filled with all 30 spots!  So lots of great timestamps I’m sure.  With the OS world buzzing make sure you have your notification set up for Chase Utley!  As we all know the market could jump all of a sudden at ANY time.  Get some credits and take out all the guesswork on where your next notification is coming from.

New look is Outstanding!!!

Today is a great day and I’m very pumped to see that OneSeason has delivered.  Mike Sroka, CEO of OneSeason, has been saying on the OSTrader radio show for weeks that a new look is coming.  Well, it’s here.  Login to OneSeason and check it out.  I’m so excited and you should be too.

First and foremost, check the frontpage.  I think everyone will want to check out the Major Holders thing as that is very fun to look at.  As we all expected, Trader and Nation members (the diehards) seem to be dominating the OS shares.  This is expected.  But what I hope we start to see is others become more interested.  That only boosts up our sportfolios.  There are already several “new” names on this list which is very exciting.  I’m a huge believer that this thing is going to get big.  The other part of that is “Diehard” which according to OS is, “longest holders of a player (never sold an SOI of the player). This will be defined more clearly in the near future.”

So OneSeason is trying to turn this more into a “social platform” which is key.  Friends can get their friends who get their friends involved.  Now it’s time to try and move up the lists and show who you are a fan of. Spread the word traders, because today and the months to come are going to be a fun ride!

Let’s buy some shares today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I’m locked and loaded.

Bird announced, where will he fall?

Larry Bird IPO was announced last night.  Larry Legend will make the 2nd NBA legend onto the market and should be released for trading sometime today.  OneSeason says up to 2200 shares could be released of Larry Bird.  WOW!  As our polls suggest, the expected market cap of Larry is $30,000 to $50,000 which means we could see him trading close to $20 a share.  Should be exciting.

So how quick did you get in?  Our partner site, OneSeasonText.com alerted it’s customers very very quickly again and several are very pleased with their times.  I’m guessing that 3-4 minutes will be the cutoff this time.  But who knows, maybe it will be more.  I think they will release close to .5% of BIRD like the last 2 IPO’s.

What are you going to do with BIRD? Hold? Sell? Buy?

McNabb Is a Grab

Donovan McNabb (MCNB) looks like a great buy today.  There are only 888 shares out there.  He will split today and I’m guessing he will be toward the top of the leader boards for price at the end of the market day.  I got my McNabb shares… do you?
