I get questions all the time about the IPO process and when the next IPO is going to be released. Honestly, this formula is very hard to “figure out” and I don’t think any of us traders have. But from our last interview with Mike Sroka, here is what we know.
First off, I’m going to define IPO Announcement and IPO Release. I refer to the IPO Announcement as when the new IPO is available to “request shares”. So the very first time this IPO has been announced to the website. IPO Release is when the IPO is available for trading.
So a common question is, “is the IPO announcement process automated or manual?” OneSeason has formula’s in place that tell them when the market is ready for a new IPO. Basically certain things that happen to “trigger” a new IPO. We are uncertain what all these factors are but it is speculated that Volume, Market Cap, # of new users, # of people requesting new IPOs, free cash and more are all factors. So, once the market is ready for a new IPO, it still takes OneSeason staff to “push the button” to announce the new IPO to the market and make that IPO open to request your timestamp. They do this so they have the staff in place to handle the support and potential issues an ipo could bring.
Likewise, the max % given to a user is sort of manually determined. This is not 100% automated as they have many different factors and formula’s to help them decide what the best % to give is. But it’s still someone at OneSeason making the final say on what this number is.
So no, the IPO process is not entirely automated. My best advice, quit trying to “guess” when an IPO is coming out and just be on call at all times. Easier said than done huh?
It has been a little more than 2 months since the excitement of Oneseason graced us all with it’s presence and here we are at a crossroads here on December 9th. I have yet to write an article about OS but I have finally reached the point where I feel it is time. I have decided to plea…no, no, beg OS to manually release IPO’s. When OS started it was fun, lively, and people lived for the day when an IPO would possibly drop and here we are 2 months later, no IPO for over a month and people missing out on the fun. You can head to Trader or over to Nation and can see the lack of life on the chats and message boards. The shine has worn off on and we need something to bring some life back. Now I know people will argue with me that it is always more fun when people are making money, but it’s not about that. The IPO process brought a sense of heightened enjoyment everyday when one was released. From the time one was released, to getting your computer to enter your order as fast as you can, to heading to Trader or Nation to post your time to compare it with everyone else to see if you might have a chance at a couple shares of Ming or Jordan, sadly we lived for these times and they are no more. I don’t know if I speak for everyone, but I believe I think, I speak for most that we need that excitement back in OS. We need IPO’s manually released to if not help the market correct itself by forcing a couple reversed splits, but just to help bring the excitement level back.
I am challenging OS to look into this. People are getting tired of the same mundane, boring market everyday, we need to bring that fire back, the fire that made your heart start racing when you find out Iverson has been dropped. I fear that people could be losing interest because nothing is happening and I don’t want Oneseason to become a victim of that. We have been waiting patiently for over a month, but I believe it is time for OS to step up and bring the life, fire, and excitement back to their supporters. Wouldn’t it be great if during the World Series if Oneseason had the ability to release the Rays and/or the Phillies on the Eve of the World Series? I believe that the Oneseason public would love to see the IPO formula tweaked to be more aggressive or done away with and become manual.
As one of the faithful followers of OS, one who wants the site to be successful, OS please step in and release some IPO’s. OS needs to do something to jumpstart the OS followers again. Give us a reason to hope and believe in this site again, because although you don’t want to hear it, some are losing their faith.
