Goodbye Traders. I sold the site!

Well, all good things have to come to end. I am sad to say that I have sold OS Trader. I never thought I would do this, but with a very lucrative offer, I could not resist. Sorry, money talks sometimes as you all know. Anyways, it has a been a great run here at Trader. All of you readers and chatters made this place what it was and I appreciate it. I am not leaving OneSeason and will still buy and sell stocks, so maybe shoot me a few messages on there or Friend me. The new owner respectfully asked that I remove everything and they plan to launch a new scaled down site in the next few days. I don’t know much about the new owner or what his plans are but I most likely won’t be hanging out around here after this week.

You can find me (Knup) around the web in several places so don’t be a stranger. Below are a few places that we might meetup.

  • Knup’s Twitter
  • Play poker with me at Full Tilt Poker (actually if you guys search for me I’m rknuppel) or Aced.
  • Take care and I wish nothing but the best to this site and you sports stock “Traders”.

PS – We will still be having our last radio show with Mike Sroka on Thursday to give him special thanks for joining us on Trader radio all these months. Then will turn it over to the new owner if they would like to continue the radio show. Tune in and give us a few parting Stocks that Rock.

Happy trading and leave comments on the OneSeason Trader Twitter account if you care to.

My favorite Illini player lands on OS

Written by the one and only JC

Growing up a little outside of Champaign I have always been a huge supporter of Illinois, ever since the Flying Illini of Kendall Gill and Kenny Battle I was hooked, but my favorite player to watch for Illinois was Deron Williams.  He was a solid college point guard who has turned into a great NBA player.  His IPO dropped yesterday and for the second time in a row there were technical glitches surrounding the question portion of the IPO process.  There was a 5 minute span where the correct answer to the question did not work, but if you tried 10.8 at first and then a different answer second it supposedly worked.  I know a few people who just went straight to the site and since they heard that 10.8 was not working they just tried 0 right away and they were successful.

I am torn about this because I do understand that OS is still in a growing phase and there still will be some glitches and that is understandable, but I also do not know if it is fair to users that we continually act like the guinea pigs all the time.  I have talked to a few people over the last week and again last night who run websites and businesses and they were very surprised that a company such as Oneseason uses its user base to test things out as much as they do.  Some of these people actively take part in OS and some do not.  When it is people’s money involved (I know it’s only like $20), you should have a product ready to go before release.  It should be tested by outside sources, and maybe this was, but if it was coded wrong I would think testers would have found this.

to succeed because it is a great product and if succeeds it is better for all of us, but I think sometimes a lot of people want it to succeed so much that they don’t question when there are issues.  It is not always sunny in OS land and it would be nice if some people acknowledged that and challenged OS to step up.  Maybe the product would improve faster.  I still believe in OS, but there are some people who are getting a little frustrated with emails saying it will be fixed next time, and then next time comes and most people run into the same problems.  I mean say there are issues with the next IPO release, will you be ok with OS just saying sorry, won’t happen again or will it frustrate you more.  How many times will these mistakes need to happen for some users to take off their rose colored glasses and demand OS to be better?  I hope more start to, as it will make this product a whole hell of a lot better.

OneSeasonPRO now has IPO trivia integration

oneseason-pro-image-125x125OneSeasonPRO has now integrated the trivia/captcha functionality into their IPO request screen!  Great news for those of us who never have luck using the OneSeason site.  Thanks OSPro!

What was wrong with OS during the Santana release?

johansantanaJohan Santana was released yesterday afternoon with the new trivia function to help excite, the IPO process.  When he was finally released all sorts of people had trouble logging on, requesting shares, during some requests people were told the answer to the trivia question was wrong even though it was correct.  I question what is the point of this trivia?!?!  I figured it would be different questions per account but it wasn’t, so now all it takes is one person posting the answer on chat and there we go.  What is the reason for this trivia, what is the benefit?  I know, to eliminate “automated orders”, but how many of those are really happening?  Frankly it just seems like a waste of time and effort by OS.  All in all it was not a good launch for OS.  OS has now said they have the kinks worked out, so lets hope the next IPO release goes a lot more smoothly.

Onto Johan Santana, personally I am very excited to see another baseball pitcher being released.  It has been a long time since the last pitcher was released and I look forward to see where his Market Value lands.  Once again with out much action in the market it seems, contrary to what they say, that we are definitely on an IPO schedule.  Which is fine by me, I would like to see the market flooded with new players so that these games will have more players to utilize.

    Bring on Deron Williams!

Next Radio show is April 2nd – with Sroka!

March Madness is seriously cramping our radio style.  We wouldn’t dare do a show in the middle of all these great games.  So we are not having a show again this Thursday.  Sorry for you diehard listeners – but there will be TONS to talk about next Thursday, April 2nd!  Plus, Mike Sroka will be joining us again on the 2nd so will be great to get some nice updates from him.

Enjoy the games and if you have OS questions or thoughts would love to discuss them on the OST Chat!

Matt Ryan makes a surprising entrance into OneSeason

With Oneseason’s announcement that the IPO process would have a new challenge to request IPO’s starting on Wednesday very few people were expecting an IPO yesterday, but once again OS surprised us and dropped Matt Ryan.  Many sellers weren’t prepared and we saw a quick sell off as some people needed to free up cash to request there shares.  Matt Ryan showed last year in Atlanta he is a franchise quarterback who can carry his team to the playoffs and it will be interesting to see where his value falls in Oneseason.  We might not see his true value until football season starts, so I would suggest holding those Matt Ryan’s as he could be very valuable come the fall.

    IPO Process now has Trivia

So if you haven’t seen already, check out the news below regarding the IPO submission process:

March.23rd.2009 2:33 AM Starting on Wednesday the 25th, there will be a new feature when requesting SOI-IPOs: Users will have to answer a question specifically about the player before they can put in their request. Example Question: Question: How many home runs did Ken Griffey Jr. hit in 1997? Answer: 56 If the question is answered correctly, you will be able to request the shares; if not, you may try again.

So this is obviously an attempt to 1) keep the automated submissions away.  2) Turn this more into a “game” per say.  But think about what this really does?  It makes the IPO request process more of a game in itself.  Now, when you get alerted that there is an IPO, you have to fine tune your “google” skills and search for the answer quickly.  Highly benefits us tech savy people who know where and how to find stuff quickly.

This now makes OneSeasonPRO.com not an option for submitting IPO requests. You must use the OneSeason interface.  I also think it makes reliable alerts even more important as you are not only going to need to know quickly, but have enough time to do the proper searches.

So what do you think about this process change?  Give your comments below or in chat!
